Naming System

An outline on how every color is named, with examples and references. Some of the explanations may not be fully accurate due to a lack of information or samples.

HighColors

Gold: forename au house name

Gold names are typically Roman in theme, both for the forenames and house names (surnames). The "au" between the 2 names is the shorthand way of writing "Gold", as you can see on a periodic table. Their names are often long, elaborate and seeped with history. Examples: Virginia au Augustus, Cassius au Bellona, Lysander au Lune, Seraphina au Raa

Silver: forename ag surname

It seems that the Silvers follow a similar naming scheme to the Golds, but with "ag" for silver (in the periodic table) instead of "au" for gold. The only known Silver other than Regulus ag Sun was a trillionaire and member of the Zenith Ring, Brittania ag Krieg. It seems that the first name of Silvers are generally British in nature.

Copper: forename cu surname

We only know of two prominent Coppers: Publius cu Caraval and Cedric cu Podginus. So it seems that the Coppers follow the Gold's naming system, employing the use of '“cu” as a signifier for copper.

White: forename

We only known of 2 Whites, one who appeared in Iron Gold as one with political aspirations and was known as Oslo, and Xenophon the logos from Dark Age. As such, their naming scheme doesn’t seem to be like that of the other highColors; with White not being a metal serving as further evidence of this.

MidColors

Blue: forename xe surname

We only know the full name of one two Blues: Orion xe Aquarii and Colloway xe Char. Other Blues, such as Captain Pelus and ArchImperator Zan, we do not know the full names of. There seems to be a general theme among Blue names for "space-y" and "interstellar" words, such as "Orion" being a reference to the well-known constellation of Orion. As per the lore, the Blues grow up and commune in large "hives", of which their surnames could be a reference to. "Xe" refers to the element Xenon.

Yellow: forename surname

Of all the Colors, Yellows are still the most unknown. We have met perhaps 3 Yellow's, the doctor who inspected Darrow when he was in prison in Morning Star; Dr. Virany, who worked alongside Mickey to treat Sevro; and Dr. Liago who explained to us that Sophocles was a clone. In all cases, it was "Doctor surname". We do not know the full name of any Yellow.

Green: forename si surname

We only have 1 named Green: Cyra si Lamensis. "Si" is for silicon, representing the technological profession of Greens.

Violet: forename

There are 2 named Violets: Mickey and Zanzibar the Carver. We do not know the full name of any Violet.

Orange: forename surname

We know of 2 prominent Oranges: Cadus Harnassus, and Glirastes the Master Maker. Neither of them have full names, although Glirastes has been given the official title of "Master Maker" after learning from the previous one. Cadus Harnussus is the longest name of an Orange we know, Which suggests that they follow the tradition "forename surname" system rather than the Gold's system.

Gray: forename ti surname

We know of several prominent Grays: Rhone ti Flavinius, Trigg ti Nakamura, Holiday ti Nakamura, Ephriam ti Horn and "Ugly Dan". For their proper names, it seems that the Gray's follow the Gold's naming scheme and with no set theme. "Flavinius" sounds Roman, "Nakamura" sounds Japanese and "Horn" sounds like a typical English surname. "Ti" represent titanium, and it references the stalwart and steadfast nature of the Gray legions and military protocol.

LowColors

Brown: forename

We only know of 2 named Browns: "Figment" and Exeter. But "Figment" cannot be used as an example here as we do not know if "Figment" is a Brown name or simply the result of the technological parasite that embedded itself in Lyria's brain after the previous "Figment" died. Exeter is the only named Brown we know of, and he is a servant of Glirastes. We do not know much about Browns and their naming system.

Obsidian: forename surname

Discounting the 500-year lost tribes of the Ascomanni, the Obsidian (after the Dark Revolt) follow the standard "forename surname" naming system with a heavy Nordic theme to complement the Nordic religon the Golds gave to socially restructure the Obsidians after the Dark Revolt. Before the Dark Revolt, Obsidian soceity was said to be "Mongol-based" rather than "Nordic-based", so pre-Dark Revolt Obsidians might have Mongolian-themed names and titles (Khan, etc.). Some modern Obsidian also have titles, such as Sefi the Quiet and Valdir the Unshorn, but these are not their full and proper names. Examples: Ragnar Volarus, Sefi Volarus, Vagnar Volarus, Alia Snowsparrow, Volga Fjorgan

Pink - forename

We know of only a few named Pinks: Matteo, Theodora and Amal. It seems that Pinks only have a first name because they are often concieved in laboratories and raised without a family. Clanship is impossible for Pinks because the vast majority of their Color are sterilised, so it makes sense that they do not have a surname.

Red: forename/numbers

Red: forename /O' mine name

We know of one highRed, Bryn, the lover of Fitchner au Barca. Fitchner lamented how the report on her death just had her death down has a "termination" and only referred to her by a number, showing that highReds gave each other names but were only known in the bureaucracy by their numbers. Of the lowReds, we know that they were only given numbers in official Society databases, but that they had first names that they gave each other among other lowReds in the same helium mine. It seems that when the lowReds came to the surface, they took upon the naming scheme of having a forename, then saying "of" whatever mine they were from. Eventually, in Dark Age, this became "forename O' mine name". Example: Darrow of Lykos, Darrow O'Lykos, Kieran O'Lykos, Rollo O'Sicyon, Lyria of Lagalos
